The boxer is medium sized breed originally from Germany. It comes in four different colours – fawn, brindle white and reverse brindle.  Boxers are extremely muscular and  stocky dogs with strong jaws.

Boxers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and are known for the affection, love and faithfulness towards family. They are good guard dogs as they do not trust strangers easily. They are extremely brave when in a difficult situation. They love playing, especially with children. They are extremely easy to maintain as they have a short coat and generally remain clean.  They are extremely active dogs and require substantial amount of daily exercise.

Developed by the interbreeding of the English bulldog and the German Bullenbeisser a boxer generally grows to a height of 22 inches to 25 inches and weighs between 25 kg to 32 kg.

Apart from being kept as pets at home Boxers are also used as service dogs, guard dogs, dogs for the blind, police dogs etc. In World War 2 they were also used as messenger and pack dogs.

Boxers normally live for around 10 years. They however do have a tendency to develop cancer or heart problem. These two problems account for nearly 45% of boxer deaths.

The thing about keeping a boxer is that they are always active and happy. This makes them a real delight to have at home as they greet you with great excitement when you enter your home after a tiring day. They also cheer you up when you are feeling low.
