Pets and Pet care

Its’ interesting to see how pets have become a part and parcel of everyone’s lives today. Earlier people either couldn’t afford to have pets or thought of animals in a shallow manner. But this isn’t the case today. People are friendlier to animals and wish to take care of them, be it in their own houses or in NGO’s built for animal care.

I own more than eight cats and one can take my word on this that housing pet cats is one of the best ways to keep yourself occupied and your mind stress free. Cats are very pretty animals. They keep themselves clean all the time and don’t fuss about food too much. When they are kittens they are the cutest things you would have ever come across. It is tiny, furry and meows like its singing. Kittens eat very little; they more or less feed on their mother’s milk. A kitten’s favourite or rather only past time is to play. They can play, jump, and run around your entire house all day long. They love to hide behind things until you find them and any attractive colour of string or ribbon makes them so agitated that they want to tear it apart. All this makes up for so much of your pass time that you don’t realise how your day goes by.

Many people have issues about house cats as they mess up the house and aren’t potty trained. Its’ a very simple process and hardly takes a couple of days. All you need to do is use one corner of your house, or your bathroom, keep a tray layered with a few papers and fill it up with mud and sand. Now take your kitten to the tray every 20 minutes. The initially couple of times it will only spill around the tray and play in the mud, but that’s ok, keep taking it to the tray every 20 minutes and do this for 4-5 days. Very soon your kitten will realise the use of the tray and will walk up to the tray on its own, finish its job and walk out. It is an instinct within the kitten to cover up its residue with mud so you don’t have to train it to do that. Ensure that you keep the door to the tray open all the time.

Neither kittens nor the fully grown cats are fussy about their food. They eat minimum and drink a lot of milk. In fact you can add some variety to their food often. Like mix either biscuits or bread or chapatti in their milk. Give them rice once in a while in curd and of course ensure that you give your cat proper cat food too once in a while. Cats are crazy fish lovers, so a good fish twice a week makes up for a fine dine.

Kittens generally don’t sleep at night, they are up almost the entire night walking around the house, playing with some wire or marble is the corner of your wall-unit, so ensure that your doors and windows are shut well. Some kittens even after becoming a fully grown cat, love to sleep in bed with you, under a cozy blanket. It’s the sweetest thing to experience, but, ensure that you don’t squeeze it somewhere under the sheets.

They are so tiny, that they fit through anything, hide anywhere and everywhere which can make managing them difficult at times. But the fact that you have such a lively little pet in your house, around you all the time makes you forget the fact that it’s troublesome at times. Pet care is also very imp. Just taking it for a walk or giving it food at the right time is not all. You need to take good care of it, ensure that it’s free of tics and take it for regular checkups.
